Westward Ho!
Westward Ho! has two miles of sandy beach that is known as the Golden Bay. Behind the beach is the famous Pebble Ridge where each year an historic festival known as Potwalloping takes place to throw (Health & Safety now means put) back the pebbles that have been taken from the ridge to the sea shore.
Westward Ho! is the only placename in this country that uses an exclamation mark and this is because the famous author Charles Kingsley wrote a book with this name in the mid 1880s. Behind the Pebble Ridge is the Northam Burrows Country Park and here you will find the championship Royal North Devon Golf Course, one of the oldest in the country.
Westward Ho! locals and holiday makers enjoy it’s good range of amenities and attractions including the numerous shops, restaurants and pubs, along with surfing, canoeing and kite surfing. Currently in development with modern (some gaining architecture awards) buildings, caravans, chalets and apartments dominating the promenade, Westward Ho! is ideal for all ages and varied property prices. It is easily accessible from the A39 link road, being only 2.5 miles from the bustling port and market town of Bideford, and 11 miles for the regional centre of North Devon, Barnstaple.
