Lynmouth and Lynton

Cottages at LynmouthLynmouth (as the word implies) is the mouth to the ocean for the convergence of the East and West Lyn Rivers - these rivers tumbling down the surrounding high wooded valleys into the sea is in itself spectacular.

Picturesque Lynmouth Lynmouth village has a picturesque harbour, whitewashed thatched cottages (so quintessentially Devonian), with numerous gift and craft shops, hotels, restaurants and pubs backed up against the dramatic sea cliffs, reputed to be the highest in England.  The victorians named this area ‘Little Switzerland” and it really does live up to this image.

Lynton hilltop Lynton sits high above Lynmouth looking out over panoramic breath taking coastal scenery including the famous Valley of the Rocks.  If you prefer not to drive, the two villages are joined by a Victorian water-propelled funicular Cliff Lift - one of the first to be built in the country.  Lynton has pretty tea-shops, gift and craft shops, with the quantist tiny cinema in a converted chapel, plus all the facilities necessary for village life.  Lynmouth and Lynton are approximately 25 miles from Barnstaple.
