Bideford
Bideford is a port and market town with a pretty pannier market. Situated on the banks of the River Torridge only a couple of miles from the Atlantic coast. It bustles with shops covering everything from antiques, ironmongery, books, pasties, home-made fudge and ice-cream, surf outfits, gifts, crafts, to choices in banks, solicitors and estate agents.
It is impressive to see large ships still docking at this port to pick up cargo such as local clay, and to see their passage holted by the pretty and historic 24 arch stone bridge built originally in 1535. Bideford is currently home to the historic sailing ship The Kathleen and May which can be hired out for special events - very unique. The Burton Art Gallery and Museum (although small and perfectly formed) is worth a visit with it’s three exhibition spaces, craft gallery, shop, workshop, lecture area and pleasant coffee shop, all adjoining the Victoria Park next to the quayside.
Bideford has many nearby attractions such as the popular Atlantic Village Retail Outlet with amusements for children, along with the nearby Milky Way and Big Sheep tourist attractions.
Bideford isn’t overcrowded with tourists, making it ideal for those who just fancy a change of scene who want to move to a better way of living (Cherry Picked Choices are actually based in Bideford which just goes to show how appealing the area is!)
