Barnstaple
Barnstaple is the regional centre and therefore the largest town in North Devon, with a centre (Green Lane) full of well known high street stores, alongside pretty local shops. If you are more of a city slicker and need more attachment to urban living, Barnstaple should be more ‘your cup of tea’.
Barnstaple has many modern clothes and record shops, plenty of bars and restaurants, as well as an historic quaint pannier market for that enjoyable afternoon potter around locally made produce. Along side the pannier market is Butchers Row, a (Medieval in appearance) group of shopfronts displaying their local regional foods through open windows, including the seaweed Lava Sausages - a treat for food lovers or supermarket haters!
Barnstaple has many attractions such as a museum, cinema and theatre and it is also the base for health (North Devon District Hospital), education authorities and local government and the town you generally aim for when looking to buy larger commodities and purchases. Barnstaple is linked to the national motorway network (M5) by the A361 via South Moulton and Tiverton, a journey of approximately 45 minutes.
